Adverse Effects Related To the Use of Generic Viagra
Generic viagra is a prescribed medicine to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). It may also be used for other purposes. Although this medicine is like a boon in impotence, it has many disadvantages which can’t be ignored. But the benefits of this drug overshadow the potential demerit s of this drug. The adverse effects of this drug on the other hand are described in the following lines.
It is natural with any drug that it causes needed effects with several unwanted effects. So is the case with viagra. Even if it doesn’t cause all side effects, if they do happen, you should seek immediate medical attention.
There are some adverse events which occur more frequently such as, headache; nasal congestion; aches or pains in muscles; bloody nose; diarrhea; difficult or labored breathing; flushing; pain or tenderness around eyes and cheekbones; redness of skin; sneezing; stomach discomfort following meals; stuffy or runny nose; trouble in sleeping; abnormally warm skin.
There are also several occasional adverse events caused by use of this drug. We can mention few of them such as dizziness; increased frequency of urination; abnormal vision, including blurred vision, seeing shades of colors differently than before, or sensitivity to light; bladder pain; burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, “pins and needles”, or tingling feelings.
More irregular of these events are double vision; prolonged, painful, or inappropriate erection of penis; bleeding of the eye; convulsions (seizures); decreased vision or other changes in vision; redness, burning, or swelling of the eye; vision loss, temporary. It is not clear whether these events are related directly to these medicines, to other factors.
In uncommon cases, men taking PDE5 inhibitors (oral erectile dysfunction medicines, including viagra) reported burning feeling in chest or stomach; cloudy or bloody urine; indigestion; pain on urination; stomach upset; tenderness in stomach area. If you experience any of these, discontinue taking viagra, and call a doctor at once.
In rare cases, generic viagra causes an erection that lasts many hours. You should call a doctor immediately if you ever have an erection that lasts more than 4 hours. If not treated right away, permanent damage to your penis could occur.
This drug has also led to a number of cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial ischemia, cerebral thrombosis, angina pectoris, AV block, migraine, syncope, tachycardia, palpitation, hypotension, postural hypotension, abnormal electrocardiogram, cardiomyopathy, cardiac arrest, heart failure.
Some digestive side effects have also been reported with viagra such as dysphagia, gastritis, vomiting, glossitis, colitis, gastroenteritis, esophagitis, stomatitis, dry mouth, rectal hemorrhage, liver function tests abnormal or gingivitis.
Dermatologic side effect have included rash which was reported in at least 2% of patients. Other dermatologic side effects have included urticaria, herpes simplex, pruritus, sweating, skin ulcer, contact dermatitis, and exfoliative dermatitis.
Non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) along with the drug is responsible for vision problem. Many factors contribute to cause this disease such as hypertension, coronary artery disease, hyperlipidemia, low cup to disc ratio ("crowded disc"), age over 50, smoking and diabetes. It is unknown whether these events have relationship with the use of PDE5 inhibitors like viagra, to the patient's underlying vascular risk factors or anatomical defects or to other factors.
