Use of Generic Temovate Clobetasol in Specific Population
Pregnancy: Teratogenic Effects: Pregnancy Category C. Many clinical trials have been conducted on animals to know the effects of Generic temovate clobetasolduring pregnancy. Corticosteroids have been shown to be teratogenic in laboratory animals when applied systemically at relatively low dosage levels. Some corticosteroids have been shown to be teratogenic after dermal application to laboratory animals. Clobetasol propionate has not been tested for teratogenicity when applied topically; however, it is absorbed percutaneously, and when administered subcutaneously it was a significant teratogen in both the rabbit and mouse. Clobetasol propionate has greater teratogenic potential than steroids that are less potent.
Nursing Mothers : Systemically administered corticosteroids excrete in human milk and could hold back growth, interfere with endogenous corticosteroid production, or cause other troublesome effects. It is not revealed whether topical administration of corticosteroids could cause sufficient systemic absorption to manufacture detectable quantities in human milk. Since many drugs are excreted in human milk, care should be exercised when Temovate Cream or Ointment is applied to a nursing woman.
Pediatric Use: Safety of Generic temovate clobetasol Cream and Ointment in pediatric patients have not been confirmed. Pediatric patients under 12 years of age can not use it because of risk. They are subject to high risk than adults for HPA axis suppression and Cushing's syndrome when they are treated with topical corticosteroids. They may suffer from adrenal insufficiency during or after withdrawal of treatment. Inappropriate use of topical corticosteroids has brought adverse effects including striae in infants and children. Children receiving topical corticosteroids have experienced HPA axis suppression, Cushing's syndrome, linear growth retardation, delayed weight gain, and intracranial hypertension. Signs of adrenal suppression in children include low plasma Cortisol levels and an absence of response to ACTH stimulation. Manifestations of intracranial hypertension include bulging fontanelles, headaches, and bilateral papilledema.
Geriatric Use: In US and non-US clinical trials, a few number of pediatric patients(at or above 65 years of age) have been treated with TEMOVATE Cream (n = 231) and with TEMOVATE Ointment (n = 101). The adverse reactions reported in this population were similar to those reported by younger patients. As a result there was no recommendation of dosage adjustment was made in geriatric patients for using Generic temovate clobetasol Cream and Ointment.
