Dextrose is a large molecular weight substance. Dextrose remains restricted to the blood vessels and generates oncotic pressure which means it generates pressure produced by proteins in the blood.

Bupivacaine works by blocking pain signals from the nerves to brain which decreases the sensation of pain. Bupivacaine blocks the ionic fluxes used for the initiation and conduction of pain impulses thus relieving pain.
