Introduction
Bactroban is used in the treatment of bacterial infections. It is usually used to treat skin infections caused by bacteria. It is an antibacterial ointment, which contains the antibiotic known as Mupirocin. It is often used to help cure certain skin infections like impetigo. Being an antibiotic, it acts very well to prevent the development of certain bacteria.
Use
This medication is used to help treat and prevent bacterial infection on the skin. It contains the antibiotic Mupirocin that helps prevent bacteria from growing on the skin. It is mostly used in the treatment of the skin infection known as impetigo. It is only prescribed for bacterial skin infection and it is for external use only.
Dosage and administration
Wash your hands properly before applying the ointment. Clean the affected area and take a small quantity of the ointment. Apply it on the affected area and rub it gently so that it forms a thin film that covers the affected area. It can be used up to 3 times a day as per the doctor’s prescription. Use it regularly for 3 to 5 days to see improvement and wash your hands immediately after applying the ointment. It is advisable not to use bandages on the affected area once the ointment is applied. A cotton gauze dressing may be used on the affected area after application to prevent it from coming into contact with your clothes. Use the medication exactly as prescribed by the physician. Your physician or pharmacist would advise you on the proper use of this medicine.
Warning
Avoid using this medicine if you are on herbal supplements or any other medication unless it has been prescribed to you by the doctor.
Pregnant women and breast feeding mothers are to use this medication only if it has been prescribed by the doctor.
Inform the doctor about your medical history, whether you are suffering or have suffered from any liver ailments or kidney problems as this medication can aggravate such problems.
Do not apply this medicine on open wounds or use it to treat burn injuries.
