How it Works

Loratadine is an antihistamine. There is a natural substance produced in the body called histamine, histamine is stored in the mast cells throughout the body. When an allergic reaction occurs, cells in the body release histamine, this causes histamine to bind to certain receptors in the body, which then leads to allergy symptoms. By taking loratadine, histamine is prevented from binding to its receptors, which helps to provide relief from hay fever symptoms and allergies.

Introduction

Loratadine has the US brand name Claritin. Loratadine is used to prevent and treat allergies. Loratadine is manufactured by CADILA and is also known as Loratin. Loratadine components are Ethyl 4-(8-chloro-5, 6-dihydro-11H-benzo [5, 6] cyclohepta [1, 2-b] pyridine-11-ylidene)-1-piperidinecarboxylate. Loratadine does not cause irritation or depression as some other drugs may cause. Claritin-D is the advanced version of this drug that is used to control the cold, fever, throat infection along with allergies.

Composition

The main component of this drug is LORATIDINE. It is a powder component that is off-white to white in color. It is a water-insoluble molecule. The molecular weight of Loratadine is 382.89. The tablet form contains the inactive components such as lactose, corn starch, and magnesium stearate. The syrup form has sugar, glycerine, water, edetate disodium, sodium benzoate, and artificial color.

Use

The primary purpose of Loratadine is to prevent and treat allergies in eyes, face, and thighs on the human body. Some recent versions of this drug help to overcome the cold and throat-related diseases as well. Loratadine provides immediate action towards the allergies within the span of less than six weeks.Patients below the age of twelve should not use this drug.

Dosage and administration

Normally, patients are advised to take one tablet daily on a regular basis. Only children below the age of twelve who are more than 30 kgs in weight and have the medical condition that can be controlled or cured with Loratadine can use Loratadine.

Contraindication

Children below the age of 2 should not use Loratadine. It is recommended to the patients Loratadine must be taken on a daily basis without fail.

Important Precautions

The patients are requested that do not practice self-treatment without consulting with the doctor first, this is because it can be harmful to your health. This drug should be kept away from children and pets. Side effects

Storage

Loratadine should be kept away from extreme heat, cold or moisture. The tablets and syrup have different storage temperatures. The tablet should be kept at room temperature of 30 degrees, and the syrup should be stored at 25 degrees.
