Introduction
Norgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol is a contraceptive pill which is used to prevent pregnancy. It is a birth control pill, which prevents ovulation in women. It is advisable not to take any form of medication along with Norgestrel, as it may react with other medicines and cause severe side effects. It is also always advisable to consult a doctor and do follow the prescription.
Use
Norgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol is used to prevent pregnancy. It consists of 2 hormones, progestin and estrogen. It prevents ovulation during menstrual cycle. It also makes the vaginal fluid very thick, which prevents sperm penetration. It changes the lining of the uterus so as to prevent the egg from attaching to the womb and therefore passing out of the body. It makes periods regular, decreases pain during periods, and treats acne.
Dosage and administration
It is usually recommended by the physician to take one pill daily at the same time. It is an oral medication and should be followed with a glass of water. It is important to follow the timing. Take this pill exactly as prescribed by a doctor. It is advised not to skip any pill as it may lead to pregnancy. In case you miss a dose, then start a new pack with a new timing and continue the same every day.
It is usually available in 0.05mg/ 0.5mg. In a 21 day package, the first tablet is taken on the day of menstruation. One tablet is taken daily after that and then the medication is stopped for 7 days followed by a new pack.
Warning
In case of any blood clots in the past, the person should not take this medication as it may worsen the condition.
Avoid this medication if the patient is suffering from high blood pressure.
If the patient has frequent mood swings or depression then it is better to consult the doctor prior to medication.
During medication, avoid alcoholic beverages or smoking. They increase the risks of serious heart diseases which may be fatal in some cases.
