Metronidazole is known as an antibiotic. Metronidazole kills the bacteria and other microorganisms that cause infections by damaging the DNA if the infectious cells thus killing the cells and stopping the infection from spreading further.

Rifaximin is used to prevent Hepatic encephalopathy, irritable bowel syndrome and Diarrhoea.
How it Works
Rifaximin is an antibiotic that works to fight bacterial infections. Rifaximin treats only the intestinal tract, it will not treat infections of other parts of the body. This is because Rifaximin passes through the stomach and into the intestines without being absorbed into the blood stream.
