Generic Imitrex Sumatriptanis a medication applied for the treatment of migraine headache attacks once they occur. It is not helpful in preventing migraines. This drug is not to be applied for other kinds of headaches. It will not lessen the number of attacks.

Before using this therapy, it is essential for you to inform your doctor about certain medical conditions like kidney or liver disease, coronary artery disease, seizure disorder, high blood pressure. Also tell about other diseases such as coronary artery disease (such as diabetes, menopause, smoking, being heavy, suffering high blood pressure (hypertension) or high cholesterol, having a case history of hardening of the arteries, being older than 40 and a man, or being a woman who has had a surgical removal of the uterus) if you have.

You may not qualify for use of Imitrex in case you are allergic to Sumatriptan. This medication can result in serious side effects on the heart, including heart attack or stroke. Although these side effects are exceptional, do not take this medication on condition that you have a history of heart disease, angina (chest pain), blood circulation problems, ischemic intestine disease, serious or irrepressible high blood pressure, or history of a heart attack or stroke.

Before using Imitrex, acquaint with your doctor if you are also taking an antidepressant such as citalopram (Celexa), duloxetine (Cymbalta), escitalopram (Lexapro), fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem), fluvoxamine (Luvox), paroxetine (Paxil), sertraline (Zoloft), or venlafaxine (Effexor).

After taking an Imitrex tablet, wait two (2) hours before taking another tablet. Above 200 mg of Sumatriptan tablets in 24 hours is forbidden to use in patients. If you are using the nasal spray also, take a second spray after two 2 hours of using the first spray. The maximum dose should not exceed 40 mg of Imitrex nasal spray in 24 hours.

There are several drugs that may cause adverse impact if used together with ImitrexSumatriptan. These drugs should not be used within 24 hours before or after using this drug. These medicines are naratriptan (Amerge), zolmitriptan (Zomig), almotriptan (Axert), eletriptan (Relpax), frovatriptan (Frova), rizatriptan (Maxalt), or ergot medicine such as methysergide (Sansert), ergotamine (Ergomar, Ergostat, Cafergot, Ercaf, Wigraine), dihydroergotamine (Migranal Nasal Spray, D.H.E. 45), methylergonovine (Methergine), ergonovine (Ergotrate).

This drug is warned against sharing with others. You can include some lifestyle changes such as stress reduction programs, exercise and dietary changes for better results. Consult your doctor or pharmacist about lifestyle changes that might profit you.

This medicine should not be used if you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) for example isocarboxazid (Marplan), tranylcypromine (Parnate), rasagiline (Azilect), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam), or phenelzine (Nardil) in the past 14 days.

Perform your lab and/or medical examinations (e.g., kidney function, potassium blood level) at regular time intervals to notice your advancement or check for side effects.
