Eplerenone works by blocking the action of the hormone aldosterone in the body. Aldosterone is important for the regulation of blood pressure. Eplerenone lowers swelling by removing excess water and electrolytes in the body. Eplerenone works to remove excess water and electrolytes in the body without removing potassium.
