Frusemide is used in the treatment to reduce fluid retention and swelling as a result of conditions such as heart failure, cirrhosis, chronic kidney failure, and nephrotic syndrome.

Introduction
Lasix is a diuretic drug. Its primary function is to improve the retention of fluid in the body. This drug can be used by itself or with combination with other drugs. The generic name of Lasix is furosemide. It functions to eliminate excess fluid in the body. Health care provider's prescription is required to buy the drug. The drug is manufactured by Semit, Aventis, and SKF.
Composition
The main part of Lasix is furosemide. It comes in the strength of 40 mg+5 mg B, 40 mg, and 100 mg. this substance is odourless, white, and powder in composition. Inactive ingredients are talc, magnesium stearate, starch, lactose monohydrate, and silicone dioxide.
Use
Lasix treats edema or swelling as secondary diseases which are cause by conditions such as renal failure, hepatic failure, cirrhosis, and heart failure. It also helps in controlling blood pressure.
Dosage and administration
Furosemide is available in tablet form b strengths of 20 mg, 40 mg, and 80 mg. Injection preparation is in 10 mg/ml strength. The oral solution comes in 10 mg/ml. Basic primary dosing depends on patient's tolerance and overall response to treatment. For treating adult patients with edema the Lasix starting dose is 20 mg up to 80 mg. Dosage is gradually increased based on response to the treatment. To get rid of edema, use Lasix drug therapy for four straight days. A lower dose of Lasix is given to elderly patients. For pediatric patients, the recommended starting dose of Lasix is 2 mg per kilogram body weight. For adult patients with hypertension the starting dose of 80 mg once a day is ideal. It can also be 40 mg two times a day. It is important to follow healthcare provider instructions on the intake of this medication.
Side effects
Some of the side effects that may occur while taking Furosemide are hearing loss, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice, increased urination, thirst, muscle cramps, itching or rash, weakness, dizziness, spinning sensation, diarrhea, stomach pain, and constipation.
Storage
Furosemide has to be stored at room temperature, away from extreme heat, moisture and cold, it has to be kept away from pets and children as well.
