Sitagliptin
Uses
Januvia is used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus which is also known as non-insulin-dependent diabetes (NIDDM).
How it Works
Januvia is known as a dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitor. Januvia operates by reducing the amount of glucagon and increases the amount of insulin produced by the pancreas to coltrol the blood sugar levels in the body. Glucagon causes the liver to produce more sugar, so by Januvia reducing the amount of glucagon in the body, this also helps to reduce the levels of glucose in the blood.
