Valsartan
Uses
Valzaar is used in the treatment of hypertension, heart failure, heart attack and diabetic kidney disease.
How it Works
Valzaar is an angiotensin receptor blocker. It is also called an angiotensin-II receptor antagonist, or an AIIRA. Valzaar relaxes the blood vessels which lowers the blood pressure and also reduces the workload of the heart. Valzaar works by blocking the effect of a chemical called angiotensin II. Angiotensin II works by blood vessels to narrow, so by blocking its effect valsartan allows the blood vessels to relax and widen. The pressure within the blood vessels is then reduced and it is easier for the heart to pump blood around the body. Valzaar also helps to protect the heart following a heart attack.
